Heller and Clark Theatres to offer home-school drama classes at Henthorne Performing Arts Center

Heller and Clark Theatres will offer two home-school drama classes in the fall for youth interested in theater. 
The first class, Home School Drama, taught by Genie Reiman, is designed for home-schooled students ages 10-17. Goals are to provide students with an introduction to theatre through individual and group drama experiences. The class will culminate with a final presentation that will demonstrate the performance skills and talents of the students. Classes are 9 to 11 a.m., Sept. 14 through Nov. 16. Cost is $85 total for 11 classes.
Reiman is a teaching artist with the Arts and Humanities Council of Tulsa. She is an Oklahoma A+ fellow and is on the Oklahoma State Arts Council’s roster of teaching artists. She has also acted and directed in the Tulsa area for over 25 years. She has also served as costume designer for Clark theatre as well as many Harwelden productions. Before coming to Tulsa, Genie received her BFA in Theatre from the University of South Dakota and her MFA in Acting/Directing with an emphasis in Child Drama from the University of North Carolina/Greensboro.
The second class, Advanced Home School Drama, taught by Sara Phoenix, is designed for home-schooled students that have previously attended the Home School Drama class at Clark Theatre. Goals are to provide students with an advanced approach to theatre through individual and group drama experiences. The class will culminate with a final presentation that will demonstrate the performance skills and talents of the students. Class times are 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesdays,, Sept. 8 through Nov. 17. Cost is $85 total for 10 classes. Ages 10-17. Instructor authorization will be required to enroll in this class.
Phoenix is an award-winning actress, dancer, director and choreographer with a BFA in Theatre from the University of Oklahoma. Having worked in many community theatres, high schools, and recently at Clark Youth Theatre, she has experience with all ages of performers. Sara was the director of John and Jen, the 2009 AACT Region VI winning production, which performed at the National AACT Festival in Tacoma, Wash.

Clark Theatre seeks young writers/directors for The Emergence Project

According to a news release, The Emergence Project was conceived for Clark Youth Theatre by Julie Tattershall and George Romero as an undertaking to develop the artistic skills and talents of Tulsa-area youth. By handing over the reigns of writing, directing, and other production aspects of The Emergence Project, it is hoped to see local artists flourish in a new way. Dates for the production are at 7:30 p.m. June 3-5, 2010 and 2 p.m. June 6.
 Clark Theatre, 4825 S. Quaker in Tulsa, OK, is seeking writers and directors ages 12-18 for this production. Playwrights should submit a piece 10-20 minutes in length, which would require minimal sets, props and lighting. Directors are asked to submit an application stating their goals for the production, as well as any skills they think they could bring to the project. Up to six one-act plays and directors will be chosen for this production.

Advising on this project is George Romero, an experienced local director, actor, and arts educator currently serving as the president of the Heller Theatre Council. The deadline for submission is Feb. 28, 2010. Plays and applications should be submitted via e-mail to .

Clark Youth Theatre to hold auditions for “The Land of the Dragon” on Feb. 6

Clark Youth Theatre will hold auditions for “The Land of the Dragon” by Madge Miller at 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010  at Henthorne Park, 4825 S. Quaker, in Tulsa, OK.
Set in a mythical version of ancient China, this is a fantasy of pure princesses, helpful minstrels, evil step-aunts, and of course, dragons. “Land of the Dragon” offers our younger actors their chance to shine onstage. Anyone 14 and younger is welcome to audition. The show is directed by Genie Reiman.

A “Hello/Goodbye” Party for Tulsa’s Clark Theatre

Clark Theatre, 11440 E. Admiral in Tulsa, is moving to a new location at the end of the year. However, all the classes, shows, and camps that audiences have been used to at Clark will be moved to a new theatre facility at Henthorne Park, 4825 S. Quaker, Tulsa.

Clark Theatre had been housed at the 11440 E Admiral location for 32 years, and there will be a party from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 20 to say “goodbye” to the old and “hello” to the new. The party will be held at the ‘old’ Clark Theatre building (11440 E Admiral). Anyone and everybody who’s had anything to do with Clark Theatre is invited.

Activities include: 3 to 4:30 p.m. – socializing, dancing, and signing the stage; 5 to 6 p.m. – pizza party & open mic (sign up with Bailey Grufik); 6 to 7 p.m. – sharing stories and a ‘memories’ slideshow.

Clark Theatre presents “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever”

“The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” is presented at 2 p.m. Dec. 6 and 13, and 7:30 p.m. today, Saturday and Dec. 9-12 at Clark Youth Theatre, 11440 E Admiral Place, Tulsa. Kathryn Hartney is the director.

This Christmas tale makes its 23rd annual appearance at Clark Theatre. “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” chronicles the story of the Herdmans, who are the worst kids in school. One Sunday, the Herdsmas come to church to take advantage of the free snacks the minister gives out, and it happens to be the same day for the annual church Christmas Pageant tryouts. After peer intimidation, the Herdmans were cast in lead roles. Disaster looms, but so does the possibility of learning the true meaning of Christmas.

Clark Youth Theatre presents Shakespeare’s “As You Like It” at 2 p.m. Oct. 11 and 25; and 7:30 p.m. Oct. 23-24 at Clark Theatre, 11440 E. Admiral Place in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The show is directed by Julie Tattershall.

Clark Theatre’s annual classic play for 2009 transports the audience to the mythical Forest of Arden, where they will follow the adventures of Rosalind, considered by many to be Shakespeare’s greatest female character. Forced to flee her evil uncle, she disguises herself as a boy and searches for her exiled father. Comedy and romance inevitably ensue. Containing Shakespeare’s classic “All the world’s a stage” monolog, “As You Like It” is one of his best-loved comedies.

Clark Theatre is a youth theater program and is part of the City of Tulsa Park and Recreation Department. Saturday auditions for Shakespeare’s “As You Like It ” in Tulsa

Clark Youth Theatre, 11440 E Admiral Place (1/4 mile east of Garnett on Admiral) in Tulsa, will hold auditions for “As You Like It” by William Shakespeare. Auditions are at 3 p.m. Saturday, August 8. Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script and improvisation of scenes. All students 18 and younger are eligible to audition. The show is directed by Julie Tattershall.
