Dr. Tommy Poole, professor of Jazz Studies at Northeastern State University, popular saxophonist and bandleader, makes his debut at 5 p.m. Sunday, June 27, 2010, at the Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame‘s Jazz Depot, 111 E. First Street (Upper Level) in Tulsa, OK.
Accompanying Poole will be Tulsa’s Scott McQuade on piano, Bill Crosby on bass and Tony Yohe on drums, guest vocalist Chuck Cissel and new jazz singer Missy Allen.
Poole has performed or recorded with such luminaries as Rosemary Clooney, Maynard Ferguson, The Woody Herman Orchestra, Diane Schuur, Joe Willams, Mercer Ellington, and Dianne Reeves.

The Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame will be the host of the Tulsa premiere of “The Wayman Tisdale Story” at 8:30 p.m. Saturday, June 5, 2010, at the Jazz Depot, 111 East First St. Upper Level in Tulsa, OK.
“The Wayman Tisdale Story” is a documentary celebrating the life and legacy of Tisdale, who was a Tulsa, OK, native, three-time all-American, gold-medal Olympian, former NBA basketball player and world renowned jazz musician. The film is directed by Emmy-nominated Brian Schodorf and produced by Hunter, Seamons, Linda Mensch and Rahman Ayi.
Doors will open at 7 p.m., reception/live music by Tulsa group WALLSTREET (winner of the Wayman’s Challenge held at the Depot in 2008) at 7:30 p.m. and finally, the showing of the film at 8:30 p.m., followed by a question-and-answer session. Blues Band, considered one of the most popular jazz and blues groups to hit the stage at the Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame‘s Depot, this quartet play a variety of jazz standards, blues and popular tunes. Israeli jazz musician Amir Gwirtzman will play a veritable “United Nations” of 20 wind instruments in a unique layering format that will amaze attendees at an 8 p.m. show on Saturday, May 15, 2010, at the Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame (The Jazz Depot), 111 E. This show is presented by the Schusterman Visiting Artist Program in cooperation with the Jewish Federation of Tulsa.

Tulsa’s jazz, Latin and Blues ensemble The Zuits will return at 7 p.m. Friday, April 23, 2010, to the Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame‘s Depot, 111 E. First Street (Upper Level) in Tulsa, OK. Dance lessons start at 7 p.m., and the show begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10.

Rising smooth jazz recording artist Gianna Welling, along with Charlie Redd and Full Flava Kings will perform in concert at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 7, 2010, at the Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame‘s Jazz Depot, 111 E. First Street, in Tulsa, OK. Tickets at the door are $15.
Welling’s vocal style is a mix of smooth jazz, R&B and soul. Her first album is a critical success, and she is already at work on her second one. Look for her on United Kingdom-based Expansion Records label. Welling is a Tulsa native and graduate of Booker T. Washington High School.

Tulsa’s Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame presents two shows this weekend that promises to be a heartfelt one for its attendees.
The Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame, in collaboration with the Tulsa Symphony Orchestra, presents “From The Tulsa Sound to the British Invasion” at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 5 and Saturday, Feb. 6, 2010 at the Jazz Depot, 111 E. First Street (Upper Level), in Tulsa, OK.
There will be live cabaret entertainment highlighting music from the Tulsa Sound to the music of the Beatles and The Rolling Stones. Groups performing include the Jambalaya Jass Band, vocalist Jack Brady, Brady Orchestra with Tulsa Symphony Orchestra strings and horns.
The Friday night show includes drinks and a buffet, catered by Just Catering by Orr. Tickets for this event are $85.
The Saturday night show has the same great music, but with drinks and a buffet available at an additional cost. Tickets for Saturday are $25 per person.
Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame inductee John Wooley will emcee both evenings.
